As difficult as it might be to believe, if Mike Pettine doesn’t produce a winning season, he and his staff will be fired at the end of the 2014 season. The end of an era has arrived in Berea at the Browns headquarters. An source close to the team has informed me, there won’t be any more 5-year-plans for the Cleveland Browns.

This is right out of the mouth of team owner Jimmy Haslam III. If Pettine and his staff can’t produce wins this season, he will join former Browns coach Rob Chudzinski on the list of one and done. Haslam doesn’t have the patience for losing. No matter what he presents to the media, Pettine only has this season to prove himself as a head coach in the NFL.

You probably don’t want to believe this, but it comes from a very reliable source.  The thing that bothers me the most, is you would think Haslam III would have more sense than this. He came into ownership of the Cleveland Browns after owning a minority share of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It is apparent, he didn’t learn much from the Rooney family about running a football team. The Steelers promote stability in their coaching staff. Win or lose they don’t fire the coach after a bad season.

The Browns have a lot of things to accomplish this season and with a rookie head coach who may not have enough time to get it done, the fans in Cleveland could be in for another shock following the 2014 season if the team doesn’t win. As hard as it is to believe, Pettine and his staff will be fired, if the Browns have another losing season.
