When the green flag drops tonight at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Danica Patrick will start in the 21st position. Patrick qualified her car going 186.109 on the 1.54 mile slippery race track. Now she just needs to find a way to get a top ten finish.

If she can get into the top ten and finish the race there, she could silence some of her credits.   Patrick has struggled since coming over to NASCAr from open wheel racing. She had tough span this season where she crashed in 5 out of her last 12 starts.

Some think the only reason she is driving in the Stewart-Haas camp is because of her abilities to bring in sponsor dollars. She needs to learn how to finish the races and break into the top ten consistently in order for her to be taken seriously as a top driver in the sport.

The race which starts tonight at 7:39pm Est. isn’t an easy one. The track is slick and it could get slicker as the race goes on. Just seeing her qualify in the top 25 gives hopes to some of her fans that there is an improvement in her performance.

If Patrick can actually finish the race in the top ten, it should impress some including me. I don’t think Patrick has what it takes to be a top performer in NASCAR. I do believe the only reason she is there is because of her popularity and the sponsorship dollars she brings into her team.

If she finishes tonight’s race in the top ten, she could help to turn my opinions around.
