The Cleveland Indians play their final regular season game today and they are leaving it up to Ubaldo Jimenez. This is the biggest game of his career since coming to the Indians in the 2011 season. Ubaldo looks like he has things turned around this season and he has pitched as well as anyone in the Tribes starting rotation in the second half of the season.
Jimenez goes to the mound looking for win number 13 of the season. He has the Indians immediate future in his hands and he could get the team the home field advantage with a win today. Who would have thought we would be talking about Jimenez and play-offs at the end of September when the season started.
Fans thought Jimenez should have been sent packing with the way he was pitching earlier in the season. The Indians pitching coach was able to work with Ubaldo’s mechanics and he turned him into a fantastic pitcher after the all-star break.
Indians fans will be on the edge of their seats with this game. A Tribe win brings the wild card game to Cleveland in Wednesday night, a Tribe loss still gets them in as a wild card team, and a tie would get the Indians in the tie breaker on Monday.
This is one game when Ubadlo Jimenez has to bring his good stuff. If he pitches the same as he has in his last few outings, we will see the Cleveland Indians hosting the wild card game at home mid-week.
